4 campaigners of a candidate killed in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Due to rifts among members, the provincial council of southeastern Paktia has not elected its administrative board so far, an official said on Monday.

The provincial council has 15 members, who are divided into two main groups. Eight members on the one side are pitted against six others in the opposite camp. A 15th member is independent.

Each group blames the other for showing no interest in conducting the administrative board elections.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Religious scholars from southeastern provinces on Thursday called for President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai to initiate concrete security measures, including peace talks with militants.

Clerics from Paktia, Khost, Paktika and Logar, during a meeting in Gardez, stressed the need for national reconciliation. They said lasting peace was central to the country’s economic development.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Tribal elders and religious scholars in southeastern Paktia province have urged the incoming government to work for bringing peace and preventing foreign interferences in Afghanistan’s affairs.

The call came at a gathering held late on Wednesday evening in the provincial capital Gardez. The participants stressed non-controversial and competent individuals be appointed as government’s peace emissaries.

 
GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Journalists in southeastern Paktia province on Thursday complained they had little access to information and were being intimated by officials.
The journalists expressed the views at a gathering arranged to award commendation certificates to representatives of media outlets in the province.
