4 campaigners of a candidate killed in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Electoral Reform Commission on Monday said past mistakes would not be repeated in future elections.
This was stated by Kawon Kakar, a member of the commission, who headed a delegation to southeastern Paktia province.
The delegation addressed a gathering attended by civil society activists, tribal elders and local residents in Gardez, the provincial capital.
Speaking on behalf of civil society groups, Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai said people had lost trust in the electoral bodies during the previous elections.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The governor of southeastern Paktia province on Tuesday said some officials in local departments had been appointed on the basis of nepotism despite unfit for the jobs.
Nasratullah Arsala, who assumed office two months back, was talking to Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive interview.
Arsala said since taking office he had evaluated the performance of local departments and officials.
His evaluation found absent coordination among some departments and employees without required skills and capacity.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday praised security forces for their stubborn resistance to Taliban attacks in the Janikhel and Chamkani districts of southeastern Paktia province and thanked local residents for their cooperation with the forces.
President Ghani, who arrived in the provincial capital Gardez, visited the 203 Thunder Military Corps base and met with military officers, soldiers and other security officials there. He also held a meeting with civil society activists, provincial council members, tribal elders and others.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A month long fierce fight between Afghan security forces and Taliban might lead to fall of Samakni district in southeastern Paktia province to militants, province council member warned on Tuesday. 
Taj Mohammad Mangal, provincial council member, told Pajhwok Afghan News hundreds of Taliban had influx into Samkani district which could fall to Taliban.
A fierce gun battle has been underway in Lawarra area, he said, adding that civilians, security forces and Taliban militants suffered scores of casualties but he has no exact figure into casualties.
