4 campaigners of a candidate killed in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): At least six border policemen have been killed during a clash with militants in the Dand-i-Patan district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.
The clash has been ongoing for the past two days in the district that shares a border with Pakistan. The 202nd Border Zone commander acknowledged the loss six border police personnel.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Basir Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News a number of security officials had suffered injuries during the fight. Taliban militants also suffered casualties, he said without giving exact figures.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents on Wednesday rallied in southeastern Paktia province demanding the word “Afghan” to be mentioned in the biometric national identity cards.
A test distribution drive of the electronic ID cards was expected on August 19, but it was postponed indefinitely by the Presidential Palace amid political wrangling.
Hundreds of residents, including provincial council members, tribal elders, and civil society activists held a rally in Gardez, the capital of Paktia, and asked the government to write word “Afghan” in the ID cards.

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A number of religious leaders, peace committee members and local elders in southeastern Paktia province demanded the government build peace and security in remote parts of the country.
Maulvi Khaliqdad, head of peace committee, said that Afghans wanted peace and stability. “Everyone should show practical efforts for peace and stability,” he demanded, adding that cooperation and assistance of local populace were also equally important in this regard. 

KABUL (Pajhwok): People in southeastern Paktia province have complained they were facing with serious problems while doing their official work because government employees demanding bribe.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Paktia provincial council member Taj Mohammad Mangal said that despite efforts to bridge the gap between people and government, people were still facing problems to do their legal work without greasing the palm of government officers.

GARDIZ (Pajhwok): Six education officers of southeastern Paktia province have been detained on corruption charges but their two accomplices managed to flee, an official said on Wednesday.
An official of the department, wishing to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News the detainees included the the directors of planning and protection, a supervisor, two engineers and the education director of Wozi Zadran district.
“Two other officials involved in corruption have been fled and we have no clue to them,” the official said.
