JALALABAD (PAN): The Nuristan provincial council on Wednesday disputed media reports that put at four the number of schools closed in the province due to insecurity.
Amanullah Inayatur Rahman, the council’s deputy head, told Pajhwok Afghan News up to 60 percent of schools in the province had been shut because of security concerns.

 
JALALABAD (PAN): Residents of several villages in the Want Waigal district of eastern Nuristan province have picked up guns to drive Taliban insurgents from their areas, officials said on Tuesday.
Two Taliban fighters have been killed, six wounded and three captured alive as a result of the uprising that involved around 200 youth, said Dr. Shasuddin Aselzai, a member of the provincial council.

 
JALALABAD (PAN): Nuristan governor Tamim Nuristani on Saturday acknowledged that no mega development project could be executed in the eastern province since last year, accusing the Ministry of Finance of refusing to release funds in this regard, despite President Hamid Karzai's directives.

What country has the most expensive election campaigns in the world? At a first glance the answer may be obvious; in the recent US elections over 2 billion dollars were spent, and combined with the other elections held at that time, the total spending is estimated to over 6 billion.

 
Voters in the eastern province of Nuristan said they see no change in their lives in the past five years.
They say no attention has been paid to their province, but they are participating in the election to bring change in the future.
The mountainous province with seven districts shares a border with Pakistan.
The provincial council of Nuristan has nine seats, three of them for women. The province has three seats in the Wolesi Jirga.
The economy of Nuristan is based on agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry.

JALALABAD (PAN): Fleeing insecurity, Nuristan provincial council members on Tuesday elected their chief and other office bearers in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
However, Nuristan governor Tamim Nuristani called the elections as "illegal", saying he had not been informed prior to the vote .
Inayat Rahman Mazhabyar was re-elected as Nuristan council chief, while Amanullah Inayat Rahman as his deputy.
