Voters in the eastern province of Nuristan said they see no change in their lives in the past years.
They say no attention has been paid to their province, but they are participating in the election to bring change in the future.
The mountainous province with seven districts shares a border with Pakistan.
The economy of Nuristan is based on agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry.
The report below was prepared on the basis of interviews with eight people, two of them women, from the provincial capital and five districts last week.

Paroon (PAN): Residents of Nuristan complain multiple challenges including lawlessness, absence of schools buildings, health clinics and basic necessities of life.
Nabiullah Rashidi, resident of Doaab district of Nuristan told Pajhwok Afghan News that the main problem haunting the residents was insecurity.
The province has zero security but the concerned officials did not pay any attention to improve the law and order, he said, adding that owing to chaos government employees could not even move to their officers and the staff was confined to governor’s office.

Paroon (PAN): People of the restive Nuristan demanded the government should take stringent measures to improve deteriorated security and flush out insurgents from parts of the province.
People demand creation of more job opportunities, implementation of rehabilitation projects, construction of roads and equal opportunities of higher education both for male and female.

Parron (PAN): Rejecting officials claim that security measures in Nuristan is considerably improved, people of the province complained deepening lawlessness and insecurity left the government machinery paralyzed.

Paroon (PAN): Provincial authorities alleged the central government of ignoring Nuristan in rehabilitation projects and depriving the province of direly needed development projects.
Mohammad Zahir Bahand, governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News some small rehabilitation projects were under construction in the province. “Work on the construction of several schools is in progress,” he added.
Bahand alleged the provincial government did not pay any heed to step up construction work on Badakhshan-Kabul road.

Paroon (PAN): Daunting challenges amid growing insecurity left far-reaching negative impact on the vital education sector in the northeastern province of Nuristan.
Mehtabuddin, provincial head of education department told Pajhwok Afghan News there were 211 schools functioning in the province including two high, 117 primary and 92 secondary schools. In addition, 20 Madrassas, two agriculture institutes and three teacher training institutes are functioning as well.

Jalalabad (PAN): Almost 90% economy of residents in Nuristan province depends on agriculture, livestock and demining, officials said.
Having the same revenue generation resources, other provinces of the country are developed to great extent but due to negligence on the part of the concerned officials, Nuristan failed to be developed on modern lines.

The radio was established by Internews in 2011 and has broadcasts from 6: 00 am to 10: 00 am, from 2:00 pm to 5: 00 pm and then from 6: 00 pm to 12: 00 am. Besides Nuristan, it covers Laghman province as well. Munawar Hamdard is the owner of the radio while Sahibdad Hamdard its chief editor.

1- Nuristan Cultural Association:
The Nuristan Cultural Association was established in 2011 in provincial capital Parun in 2011, which is still functioning. Munawar Hamdard is heading the association. It has hundreds of members. The association is active in cultural and charity activities.

Saya was established in 2011 and its central office is located in Kabul. Its branch is situated in Nuristan. It is headed by Rahmatullah Rashidi and has different civil activities.
