Voting in Logarpolls off to peaceful start

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Above half of the polling stations in central Logar province face security threats, the Independent Election Commission (IEC)’s regional office said on Tuesday.
Abdul Rahman Muhabat, IEC head for Logar, told Pajhwok Afghan News there should be 82 polling stations in Logar but their number was to 34 due to insecurity.
According to his information, among every 34 polling stations, ten were under middle and eight under high security threats.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Some members of the provincial council accuse the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of allowing a company to illegally extract chromites in the Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province.
Chromite is an iron chromium oxide. It is an oxide mineral belong to spinal group. The two main products of chromite refining are ferrochromium and metallic chromium; for those products the ore smelter process differs considerably. The chromite could be used for making steal, bullets, bullet-proof vehicles and vest coats.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): New buildings for teaching and administration purposes are being constructed on the university campus in central Logar province.
Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai and deputy higher education minister Gul Hassan Walizai on Monday inaugurated construction works on the 37 million afghani project.
Fidai said the structures would cost 37 million afghanis which had been provided by the Ministry of Counternarcotics under the Alternative Livelihood Programme.

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The governor of central Logar province on Sunday said 35 percent of government institutions had no proper buildings because powerful land mafia had grabbed thousands of acres of state land.
Mohammad Halim Fidaee told reporters that 1,660 individuals, including included government officials, powerful figures, local influential, officials and common people were involved in the land grabbing for years in Logar.
