KUNUZ CITY (Pajhwok): About 80 percent of eligible voters stayed homes and did not vote in the October 20 Wolesi Jirga elections in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Saturday.

 

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Two people were killed and 38 others wounded, including women and children, as at least 10 mortars were fired into the capital of northern Kunduz province on Saturday, the day of parliamentary election.
Zonal hospital in-charge Murtazavi Yaftali told Pajhwok Afghan News that they had so far received two dead bodies and 38 injured people including women and children. He said the dead included one security man and the injured included 11 security personnel.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Out of 220 polling stations set up in northern Kunduz province, people have registered as voters in only 98 stations and among these 30 stations face high security threats.
Rassoul Omar, Independent Election Commission (IEC) head for Kunduz, told Pajhwok Afghan News voter registration process did not take place in 122 polling stations of the province due to security problems.
“There are a total of 220 polling stations in Kunduz, but people visited only 98 of them,” he said.

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Public representatives and residents of northern Kunduz province have expressed their deep concern over the continued presence of Taliban fighters in areas around the provincial capital.
Two months back, the Taliban overran the strategic city and controlled it for three days. However, the security forces launched a clearing operation to retake the provincial capital after two weeks of fighting.
