ASADABAD (PAN): Known as one of the mountainous regions, the eastern Kunar province is excessively rich in natural resources especially mines of precious and semi-precious stones, which need to be extracted in a legal and professional way.
Located in the eastern part of the country, the province has several mines of precious and semi-precious stones while its excavation is continued illegally and nonprofessionally. The mines are being smuggled to outside countries since long but the authorities’ concerned yet to take any step.

ASAD ABAD (Pajhwok): Taliban have blown up a girls’ school and a clinic in Naray district of eastern Kunar province, officials said on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Sayedkhel, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incidents happened overnight in Sao and Shergul localities. The school building had been damaged almost in the bombing, he said, adding the blast also destroyed copies of holy Quran, books and furniture.
The clinic, he said was also damaged in a similar act in Shergul area but caused no casualties among civilians.

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Despite tall claims by security officials that insurgents have been driven from the Dangam district of eastern Kunar province, residents of the troubled town on Saturday said heavily-armed rebels were still in control.
About one and a half months ago, hundreds of armed insurgents launched coordinated attacks in various parts of the district, targeting local security forces and residents spearheading an uprising against them.

JALALABAD/ASADABAD (Pajhwok): None of former provincial council members in eastern Nuristan and Kunar provinces could win reelection bids and have been succeeded by new faces.

In Nuristan, the winners are Khalilullah, Abdul Latif Nazhat Yar, Mohammad Zahir Nuristani, Saeedullah Paindazai, Maulvi Zeenatullah Wafa, Alhaj Khushal Atikan, Maulvi Omar Farooq Qanuni, Bibi Atifa Nuristani and Bibi Zainab.
