Kunar is a mountainous province of the country, located in east of the country on northern latitude of 35 degree, 00 minutes and 00 seconds. Kunar is bordered with Nuristan province in north, south with Nangarhar province, west with Laghman province, with the Durand Line across the border tribal areas located in its east.

According to a book named “Past & Current Kunar”, Kunar is a Nuristani word, which means olive valley. Previously Kunar was the rolling centre of eastern Nangarhar province, which has been upgraded to a province since 1965.

ASADABAD (PAN): The new governor of eastern Kunar province has pledged to fight corruption in government departments and reconcile militants who have waged insurgency due to their mistreatment at the hands of officials.
Shujaul Malk Jalala, a former presidential advisor, who once associated with Sibghatullah Mujaddadi’s Milli Nijat jihadi faction, assumed charge last week as the governor of Kunar, replacing Fazlullah Wahidi.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai’s advisor Shujaul Mulk Jalala was appointed as new governor of eastern Kunar province on Monday, the Office of Administrative Affairs said.
He replaces Syed Fazlullah Wahidi, who was transferred to western Herat province last week. Karzai appointed Jalala on the Independent Directorate of Local Governance’s recommendation.

ASADABAD (PAN): An administrative officer has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the eastern province of Kunar, an official said on Sunday.

ASADABAD (PAN): Pakistani forces once again fired 90 missiles into Shigal and Sarkano districts of eastern Kunar province, causing no casualties, an official said on Monday.
Sixty of the missiles were fired at the Shultan valley of Shigal and 30 at the Shonkrai area of Sarkano, damaging crops, Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
