KHOST CITY (PAN): Provincial council members in southeastern Khost province on Thursday closed the council's office in protest against a joint Afghan-international security operation that resulted in the deaths of six civilians.

KHOST CITY (PAN): A powerful figure in southeastern Khost province on Thursday criticised the election commission for indicating that no voting centres would be set up in insecure areas during next year’s presidential and provincial council polls.

What country has the most expensive election campaigns in the world? At a first glance the answer may be obvious; in the recent US elections over 2 billion dollars were spent, and combined with the other elections held at that time, the total spending is estimated to over 6 billion.

Security problems and lack of roads top the list of demands from many people in Khost. They want the next president to solve those key issues.
Located in the southern zone, the province has 12 official districts with another three unofficial districts. The province has nine representatives in the provincial council. Three of them are women and the rest are men.
The below report is based on comments of six residents - including two women, and one Kuchi - from three districts of the province.
