SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Saturday’s Wolesi Jirga elections will not take place in three districts of northern Jawzjan province owing to insecurity, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional office said on Wednesday.
Hamidullah Baloch, acting IEC head for Jawzjan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that polling stations would stay shut in Darzab, Mardyan and Khamyab districts where people had also not registered as voters.

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Dozens of people with disabilities on Wednesday held a gathering in northern Jawzjan province and warned to boycott the Wolesi Jirga elections if candidates presented no special programs for them
Around a hundred physically challenged individuals attended the gathering in Shiberghan, the provincial capital, and criticized former Wolesi Jirga members’ performance and declared their stance on participation in the Oct 20 polls.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament members on Monday welcomed a quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad aimed at reviving the stalled peace talks.
Lawmaker Lalai Hamidzai from southern Kandahar province said a strong determination for peace had developed in the country, something not found in the previous government.
He said peace talks had taken place with Pakistan in the past as well, but now the US and China could put pressure on Pakistan to use its influence over Taliban and bring them to the negotiating table and prevent them violence.

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The prosecutor for northern Jawzjan province on Wednesday alleged gunmen of Provincial Council (PC) members had beaten him. He closed the department to protest the attack.
Prosecutor General Hafizullah Khaliqyar said some provincial council members and more than 10 gunmen forced their way into his office and demanded their “illegal demands” be met.
