LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The new governor on Thursday said his top priorities would be improvement in the security situation, fighting corruption and maintaining peace in southern Helmand province.
Mirza Khan Rahimi was introduced as the new governor for Helmand by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG)’s municipality affairs director Abdul Baqi Popal at a press conference here.
Popal said Rahimi had served on various positions in the government and had enough experience to work for improvement of the security situation and other affairs in Helmand.

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A number of provincial council members of southern Helmand province on Monday said that acting officials serving as heads of various departments were causing serious problems in the province.
Karim Attal, head of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the council was unable to resolve people’s problems because most of the departments were headed by acting officials.

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The provincial council chief of southern Helmand province and some residents complained against growing insecurity and blamed security forces for lack of coordination in their fight against miscreants.
Taliban have intensified attacks in various provinces, including capital Kabul, in which both sides and civilians suffered casualties.

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least 14 policemen and seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed in a fierce firefight with Taliban in the Nawzad district of southern Helmand province, an official said Tuesday.
A provincial council member Attaullah Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News a group of militants stormed a number of security posts in Nawzad district on Monday night.
