Voting in Ghazni polls off to peaceful start

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Ballot process formally started at 7:00 am on Saturday throughout the country.
Long queues of voters are seen waiting for their turn in the Ghazni provinces.
According to IEC, around 12 million eligible voters would exercise their right to vote in 6,365 polling stations. At least 400,000 security personnel had been deployed to ensure stringent security measures for the ballot.
For the last several elections, 21 million people in the country obtained their voter cards, with four million of them obtained voter cards in this election.

Clashes were ongoing as insurgents attacked five polling stations in Andar and Deh Yak districts of southern Ghazni province on elections day, two attackers were killed and the sites had been closed.

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of southern Ghazni province on Thursday claimed the Taliban had started hurling death threats at them after they participated in the elections on April 5.
A resident of the Deh Yak district, Mohammadullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was hit black and blue by the rebels because he had cast his vote.
“After the elections, the Taliban came to our village. They hit me and several other residents.”

Taliban threaten, hold hostage Ghazni voters

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) in southern Ghazni province on Monday said objections lodged in connection with irregularities should be supported by authentic proofs.
IECC Commissioner Abdul Qadir Takin told Pajhwok Afghan News around 100 complaints had been registered so far, including those against police officials and district chiefs supporting particular presidential candidates.
“But we are not provided with proofs. The complainants should give us documents in support of their claims,” he noted.
