KABUL (Pajhwok): Ghazni is one of Afghanistan’s ancient, populous 2nd-grade provinces, located 145 kilometers west of the central capital Kabul. It has a rich history, ancient sites and enormous mineral wealth. .
The province, which lies on the Kabul–Kandahar highway, has historically served as a commercial hub. Ghazni usually remains hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The temperature in the winter dips to -30 degree centigrade.

GHAZNIC CITY (Pajhwok): A former district chief for Qarabagh district has been killed by Taliban militants in southern Ghazni province, an official said Saturday.
Shafiq Nang, the governor’s spokesman, said that Mohammad Hassan Faizi -- also a tribal elder -- was gunned down soon after disembarking from his car in the main district bazaar.
Shafiq Nang told Pajhwok Afghan News that Faizi was shot dead with a silenced pistol. The killer managed to escape.

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Sixty disabled persons, including females, have completed several vocational courses in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Sunday.
Funded by the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA), the courses included tailoring, carpentry and furniture making, said Fateh Khan, SCA official in Ghazni.
He said the trainees were distributed certificates on completing the nine-month courses and were also financially supported in launching their own businesses. He said more special people would be provided similar trainings in future.

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The police chief has ruled out the presence of fighters aligned with the Islamic State (IS) group in southern Ghazni province.
Talking to reporters in the Andar district on Wednesday, Brig. Gen. Zarawar Zahid said a number of insurgents detained during an ongoing operation included Pakistanis, Arabs and other foreigners.
The police chief visited several districts to closely monitor the ongoing military operation focused on Maqur, Gilan, Khogyani, Deh Yak and Andar towns.

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Rights activists on Wednesday complained the judicial organs and other relevant authorities had been sluggish in addressing cases of violence against women in southern Ghazni province.
They said incidents of violence against the gender had increased in Ghazni this solar year that ends March 21.
Former provincial council member and women’s rights activist, Hamidi Gulistani, told Pajhwok Afghan News violence against women had recently surged.
