NILI (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Thursday launched a suicide prevention campaign in central Daikundi province amid reports that 15 women in the province committed suicide during the last three years, officials said.
According to AIHRC, at least 123 females attempted to commit suicide in the last three years but 15 of them lost their lives. Another 47 had attempted suicide this year alone, the commission said.

NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of central Daikundi province on Tuesday urged new provincial council members to do all they could to ensure good governance and share their expertise with local authorities.

The former provincial council was compromised of nine members, including two women. As many individuals, including three women, have won the April elections.

Daikundi residents alleged most of remote villages were not paid due attention by the outgoing council. They want the new public representatives to monitor aid distribution and focus on education and job opportunities.

 
NIELI (Pajhwok): Dozens of civil society and political activists, including women, on Thursday staged a protest against the approval of a draft law allowing parliamentarians to enjoy certain privileges even after completing their tenure.
Earlier in the week, the Wolesi Jirga approved the draft law permitting lower house members to draw 25 percent of their salaries, keep two security guards and enjoy certain other privileges.
