NEILI/BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Provincial council members in central Bamyan and Daikundi provinces say the closure of their offices has a negative impact on good governance.
A month back, the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament, amended the law on provincial councils, barring them from evaluating the performance of local departments.
The lower house’s decision sparked protests by provincial council members in all provinces and they closed their offices.

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A former local commander accused of harassing civilian in the Waris district of central Bamyan province joined the peace process on Thursday, an official said.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Khudayar Qudsi told a news conference in Bamyan Commander Sarhang Wafa had surrendered along with 12 supporters and 15 weapons. “Bamyan residents will now live in peace.”
Provincial peace committee head Mohammad Sadiq Aliyar said people were concerned at a rise in Islamic State activities. Illegal commanders gave IS a chance to enhance their influence, he added.

Irresponsible commander in Bamyan joins peace drive

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Judges and prosecutors are not punctual and remain absent for months in some districts of Bamyan and Maidan Wardak provinces, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said on Wednesday.
Roohullah Farogh, AIHRC regional head in Bamyan, told Pajhwok Afghan News the problem was particularly acute in the Shibar district of Bamyan and the Behsud district of Maidan Wardak.

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief for central Bamyan province on Sunday acknowledged interference from influential people and the absence of a demographic database had paralysed the body ahead of parliamentary polls.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Ali Shah Misbah said the officials concerned should help resolve problems; otherwise the body would be unable to conduct free and fair elections.
