PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The new governor for northern Baghlan province assumed office on Tuesday when provincial council members criticised the government for failing to consult them on the appointment.
Abdul Sattar Barez, before embarking on his new assignment, worked as Faryab’s deputy governor for more than one decade. He replacesSultan Mohammad Ibadi as Baghlan governor.

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): As many as 1,000 people, including some former jihadi commanders, recently gathered in central Baghlan province and pledged support to the security forces in the fight against insurgents.
Civil society activists, on the other hand, expressed their concerns and reservations about the new role the former fighters are eyeing. They argue the issue will become even more intractable once peace is restored to the country.

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Tala wa Barfak district of northern Baghlan province has been overrun by the Taliban, who also captured the Khawaja Ghar town of Takhar province, residents and officials said on Thursday.
A former jihadi commander from Tala wa Barfak district, Khairullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News the district was overrun by militants at 11pm.He said the town’s police chief and security forces had to the Roi Duab district of neighbouring Samangan province.

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Afghan government has signed a deal with tribal elders in northern Baghlan province seeking to keep the insurgents from attacking security forces and emplacing landmines in two districts, but local residents, members of the provincial council and civil society activists say the accord amounts to glorifying militants.
