FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Following intervention from the provincial, prisoners have called off their hunger strike in Badakhshan central jail, a public representative said on Saturday.

Provincial council head Abdullah Naji Nazari told Pajhwok Afghan News the inmates had gone on hunger strike two days ago due to an inordinate delay in hearing of their cases.

With intervention from the council, the prisoners ended their strike, he said, adding that the protestors had been assured their demands would be sympathetically considered.

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of northeastern Badakhshan province blame the outgoing provincial council for doing no service to the general public, fearing the new one may follow suit.

But the newly-elected representatives have promised all-out efforts to bring positive changes to people’s lives. In Badakhshan 15 runners were declared winners, six of them new faces.

Abdul Bashir, a taxi driver, accused the previous provincial council members of having failed to keep their promises and forgetting the masses as soon as they embarked on their jobs.

 
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of northeastern Badakhshan province want the incoming president to focus on stopping foreign interference in Afghanistan and ensuring sustained international military assistance to ensure stability.

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Three people, including a leading provincial council runner, have been detained with 300 kilograms of drugs in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Wednesday.
Javed Waziri, an official of public relations at the police headquarters, said the drugs being smuggled in a police vehicle to Takhar province were recovered in Kishm district of Badakhshan.
The unit the police vehicle has been assigned to could not be verified, he said, adding three men, including provincial council runner Maulvi Abdul Rab had been detained.

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of Badakhshan and Kapisa provinces on Monday staged protest demonstrations against alleged fraud in the June 14 runoff election, calling for the election commission secretary’s trial.
In Badakhshan, hundreds of protesters marched in front of the IEC office and assembled in the Shahr-i-Kohna area of Faizabad, the provincial capital, in the morning.
