Police among 12 killed in Badakhshan battle

FAIZABAD (PAN): Two children have died of cholera in a village in northern Badakhshan province, with the infection spreading to another nearby village, amid official claims the outbreak has been controlled.
The outbreak that first appeared in the mountainous village of Chappa in the Darayen district infected 1,492 people and killed a young woman and left another 100 in critical condition, according to local officials.

Cholera continues to claim lives in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (PAN): A cholera outbreak that killed a 19-year-old girl and infected at least 1450 people in northern Badakhshan province has been controlled, health officials said on Monday
The girl died after she was infected with cholera in Derayam district, Public Health Director Noor Khawari said, confirming more than 1400 people had been daignosed postive. Of them 25 persons were taken to the provincial capital as they were in critical condition.

FAIZABAD/TALOQAN (PAN): Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly molesting his three and a half years old niece in northern Badakhshan province, while another man stabbed his wife to death in northeastern Takhar, officials said on Tuesday.

What country has the most expensive election campaigns in the world? At a first glance the answer may be obvious; in the recent US elections over 2 billion dollars were spent, and combined with the other elections held at that time, the total spending is estimated to over 6 billion.

A number of people in this remote province consider unpaved roads, non-availability of health facilities and electricity as their main problems. Eager to take part in the elections, they want the next president to address the problems.
Badakhsan is located around 560 kilometres north-east of the central capital Kabul and consisting of 28 district. The number of seats in its provincial council is 12 with four of those reserved for women.
