KABUL (PAN): Presidential candidate Dr. Ghulam Farooq Nijrabi says he has not yet started electioneering because he doubts transparency in the August 20 polls. "I can't win the election and the one already chosen will be the president of Afghanistan, just as has happened in the past," the Istiqlal Party chief alleged. In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Nijrabi insisted the election process was shorn of all credibility. But he would not reveal who had already been picked and by whom. By jumping into the fray, he wanted to inform the masses of what was happening in build-up to the elections. In this regard, he promised, a full-fledged awareness campaign would be launched soon. On June 18 Nijrabi had announced that he would soon embark on electioneering but the process had not been set in motion so far. If he wins the ballot, the candidate is pledged to expelling foreigners from the country. He will also concentrate on developing the Afghan National Army (ANA). "There are problems within the government that gave Taliban fighters an opportunity to regroup and continue fighting government forces. The real cause of the anti-government movement (gaining strength) should be found," he stressed. Sustained focus on the economy, better health facilities, promoting the politics of tolerance, speedy reconstruction, urban development and expanding the communication network are his top priorities. The 55-year-old, hailing from the Nijrab district of the central Kapisa province, has been working as a doctor for the last 25 years after graduating from the Kabul University. Currently a surgeon at a private clinic in Kabul, Nijrabi has named General Abdul Wakeel and Khwaja Ghulam Jilani Siddiqi as his running mates. Khwaja Baseer Ahmad
