The volatile Paktika province is situated alongside the Durand Line at the southeast of the country. The province has 21 administrative units (districts) including the capital Sharana city.

  1. Urgon:

The Urgon district is situated 70 kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital Sharana.
It is most populated district of the province, however, the exact number of its population cannot be known because of the absence of any official census.
The main tribes of Urgon district are Urgoni, Kharoti and Zadran.
Agriculture and livestock are the main occupation of the people of Urgon district.

  1. Surobi:

The Surobi district is located 75 kilometers to the north of provincial capital city.
The Kharoti tribe resides in the Surobi district who are mainly associated with the businesses of pine nuts forests. The exact figure of its population is not known.

  1. Barmal:

Among the frontier district, Barmal is located 90-kilometers to the east of the provincial capital.
The Angor Adah area of Barmal district shares long border with alongside the Durand Line with Pakistan. Its residents do a large scale business with the neighboring Pakistan. Agriculture is the profession of the residents of Barmal. 

  1. Ziruk:

The Ziruk district is located 180-kilometers to the southeast of the provincial capital Sharana.
Zadran is the main tribe resides in Ziruk. The economy of many in Ziruk depends on pine nuts and timber for construction and fire purposes.
 

  1. Nika:

The Nika district is located 190-kilometers to the north of Sharana city.
Its residents are Zadran whose main occupation is selling timber of its densely forests.

  1. Gayan:

The Gayan district is located 196-kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital.
The residents of Gayan are Zardran by tribe. The tribe is associated with the business of timber and woods. Most of its residents are working abroad with special reference in Pakistan and Gulf States to earn livelihood.

  1. Sar Rawza:

The Sar Rawza district is situated at a distance of 20-kilometers to the north of the Sharana city.
Its residents are Kharoti and Omarzak by tribe. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Sar Rawza district. Most of the people do pine nuts business. Some of its residents are working abroad in the United Arab Emirates, UK and Pakistan.

  1. Omna:

The Omna district is located at a distance of 60-kilometers to the south of provincial capital. A large number of its residents are associated with pine nuts business. The dwellers of the area are mostly from Kharoti tribe.

  1. Gomal:

The Gomal district is situated 70-kilometers to the southeast of provincial capital Sharana.
The residents of Gomal district are Kharoti by tribe.
The mountainous district has large scale pine nuts jungles, which is the main source of income of its residents.
A large number of people in Gomal are associated with pine nuts business.

  1. Shkin:

The Shkin district is located 85-kilometers to the east of the provincial capital. Majority of its residents are Wazir and Zadran by tribe.
Shkin is among the frontier district having border alongside the Durand Line.
The residents of Shkin are working on the other side of the border in north and South Waziristan. Some of its residents eke out their livelihood from woods and timber business.

  1. Waza Khwa:

The Waza Khwa district is situated 190-kilometers to the south of provincial capital.
Belonging to Sulimankhel tribe, the residents of Waza Khwa are associated with agriculture and livestock profession and some of them are working abroad in India and Pakistan.

  1. Tarwah:

The Tarwah district is located 210-kilometer to the south of Sharana city.
Belonging to Sulimankhel tribe, the residents of Tarwah are mainly associated with the profession of agriculture.

  1. Worr Mamay:

The Worr Mamay district is located 230-kilometers to the south of provincial capital. The people of Worr Mamay are mainly from Sulimankhel tribe. Agriculture is their main profession.

  1. Khairkot:

The Khaikot district is located 67-kilometers to the south of Sharana city.
Belonging to the Sulimankhel tribe, the resident of Khirkot are agrarian by profession, however some of them travel abroad to India and other Arab countries for work.
Grapes are the most abundantly produced fruit of Khairkot.

  1. JaniKhel:

The Janikhel district is situated at a distance of 75-kilometers to the south of provincial capital.
Majority of its residents are Sulimankhel and Katwazi. Their main source of earning is agriculture. However, some of them are working abroad in Pakistan and Arab countries.

  1. Khosahamand:

The Khosahamand district is situated at a distance of 75-kilometers to the south of the Sharana city.
The residents of Khosahamand are Sulimankhel by tribe whose main occupation is agriculture and livestock.

  1. Dila:

The Dila district is located 187-kilometers away from the provincial capital.
Its residents are Sulimankhel by tribe. Their occupation is agriculture and livestock.

  1. Yousufkhel:

The Yousufkhel district is situated at a distance of 20-kilometers to the southeast of Sharana city.
The residents of the district are associated with the profession of agriculture, however, a portion of its population is working abroad in Iran, Saudi Arabia and Dubai.

  1. Yahyakhel:

The Yahyakhel district is located 35-kilometers to the south of provincial capital.
The residents of yahyakhel district are Sulimankhel by tribe. Majority of its residents are working abroad in India and Arab countries.

  1. Mata Khan:

The Mata Khan district is located 15-kilometers to the north of the provincial capital Sharana.
Majority of its residents are associated with the profession of agriculture while some are working in Pakistan.

  1. Sharana:

Sharana city is the provincial capital of Paktika province. The district has the offices of governor from where the rest of the district is controlled administratively.
