Kunar province has 15 administrative units including the provincial capital:
1.    Asad Abad:
Asad Abad, the capital of Kunar province, has 480 kilometers area and comprised of 52 villages with a total population of 133, 445. Also known as Chaghasrai, Asad Abad has a historical monument to its north of where Chaghanians ruled. The city has though immense natural beauty, the flowing of Pech Valley and Kunar Rivers contribute to the scenary of the district.
2 – Narrang:
Located in the south of Asad Abad and on the Jalabad Highway, Narrang district has 164 square kilometers area. It has 68 big and small villages. Mostly associated with the profession of agriculture, the district has a population of 48, 700 individuals.  
3 - Sawkai:
The district of Sawkai is also located to the south of Asad Abad on Jalalabad Highway. It has 249 square kilometers area and comprised of 122 villages and hamlets. Profession of the people in Sawkai is mainly agriculture. The district has a total population of 54, 725 individuals. The district has mountainous and vast jungles.
4 - Noorgul:
Bordering Shewa and Dara-i-Noor districts, Noorgul is also located on the strategic Jalalabad Highway to the south of Asad Abad. The district has 367 square kilometers area. It has 87 villages with population strength of 53, 170 individuals. People of the district mainly eke out their livelihood from agriculture.    
5 – Khas Kunar:
The district is located to the south east of Asad Abad. It has a total of 337 square kilometers area with 66 villages. Its population is estimated 47, 890 individuals. The district shares border with Durand Line and Shewa district. Agriculture is the main profession and source of income of the people. The widely known personality--- Sayyed Jamal-u-din--- is born in the district.
6 – Sarkanro:
The district is located to the southeast of Asad Abad and has 297 square kilometers area with 83 villages. The district has a total strength of population of 45, 930. Agriculture is the main profession of the people. It shares borders with Durand Line, Khas Kunar, Mrrawara districts and Asad Abad, the provincial capital.  
7 - Mrrawara: 
The district is located east of Asad Abad and has 159 square kilometers area. It comprises of 43 villages. Its population touches the figure of 26, 850 individuals. The district has its borders with Durand Line, Sarkanro, and Shigal districts and the provincial capital.
8 – Shigal:  
This district is located to the east of Asad Abad and has 95 villages. Its population reaches to 57, 370 individuals. The income of its people depends mainly on agriculture sector. Kashmir Khan, a prominent Jihadi commander hails from Shigal.
9 - Asmar:
The district is located to the east of Asad Abad and has total of 910 kilometers area. The district has 47 big and small villages. The strength of its population touches the figure of 29, 545. The main source of income of the residents is agriculture. The district shares borders with Durand Line and survey for the construction of a dam on the Kuran River was conducted during the reign of Dawood Khan. The dam was expected to generate 2, 500 megawatts electricity.
10 – Dangam:
Dangam is a mountainous district and is situated along the Durand Line to the east of Asad Abad. The district has 334 kilometers area and 36 villages and hamlets. Its estimated population is 24, 630 individuals. Again, agriculture is the profession of the locals.
11 - Ghazi Abad:
Having 55 villages and a population strength 37, 290, the district is located east of Asad Abad where people are associated with the profession of agriculture. Its mountainous areas are covered by jungles with mainly the Gujar and Salarzai tribes live there. 
12 – Narrai:
The district is located east of Asad Abad. It has a total of 377 square kilometers area. Its population is estimated 47, 765 who spread in as many as 81 villages. Agriculture and livestock are the main profession of the people. Jungles spread on vast area of the province and the district shares borders with Chatral on the Durand Line, Nuristan province and Ghazi Abad district. Gujar, Salarzai, Mashwanai and Kuhistani tribes live in Narrai district.  
13 – Watta Pur District:
The district located to the north of Asad Abad while the Pech Valley River divided the district into two. It has 49 with an estimated population of 28, 595 individuals. It shares border with Manogai, Want Waigal, and Kunar provincial capital. The Managi dam has recently been approved, which is located in the district on Pech Valley River. The dam is expected to generate 2.5 megawatts of electricity.
14 - Manrogai:
In terms of population and area, it is the largest district located to the north of Asad Abad. The district has 229 square kilometers area with 531 big and small villages. It has a total population of 76, 785 individuals. Manrogai is a mountainous district with abundant in natural resources with special reference precious stones. Along with agriculture profession, the people of the district do exploration of natural resources.
15 - Chapa Dara:  
The district is also located to the north of Asad Abad and has 229 square kilometers area. It has 110 villages with a population of 47, 605individuals. It shares border with Nuristan and Laghman provinces. Mainly Sapai tribe live here, and the district is rich in natural resources. Officials said that presently exploration in an unprofessional way is in progress on 1,100 sites, from where some precious stones are being smuggled to Pakistan. Its people are mostly associated with the business of exploration.
