Massive polls’ rigging reported in Nuristan

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A number provincial candidates in eastern Nuristan province on Thursday accused some local and the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional officials of massive rigging and fraud in Saturday’s polls.
Some eight provincial council candidates at a news conference in this provincial capital, complained about widespread electoral fraud in the remote areas.
They alleged militants conducted attacks on polling sites scheduled to be opened for voting but ballot boxes were stuffed in private residences after the attacks.
They called on the Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC) to quarantine all those ballot boxes stuffed illegally.
Amanullah, a provincial council candidate from Nuristan, said some IEC, security and local officials were in connivance with others in carrying out frauds during Saturday’s elections.
He said the officials had illegally stuffed ballot boxes in favour of presidential candidates Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Prof. Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf and some provincial council candidates.
