KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 85 percent of people are happy with results from the presidential election, finds an online survey conducted by Pajhwok Afghan News.
Late on Tuesday, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced President Ashraf Ghani has won re-election by securing 50.64 percent of votes.
Ghani secured 923,592 votes (50.64 percent), Dr. Abdullah 720,841 (39.52 percent) and Gulbadin Hekmatyar 70,241 (3.85 percent).
In a survey on Facebook, Pajhwok asked people whether or not they were satisfied with the outcome of the election conducted on September 28, 2019.
The query was answered by 23,200 people, with 87 percent of respondents agreeing with the final results and 13 percent voicing reservations with them.
Asked and answered online, the question does not meet standards of a survey. As many as 508 respondents also offered comments on the election results.
Satisfaction
“Dear countrymen, rally around Ghani Baba and steer your homeland out of a serious crisis,” wrote Rahimullah Karimzai, one of the participants.
Another respondent named Habib said: “Long-suffering Afghans hope for a stable government and an end to the culture of warlordism.”
While supporting the IEC decision, Rafiullah Faiz said: “The commission has proved that no one can play with people’s will.”
Mia Khan said: “I’m fully satisfied. Ghani Baba is the man committed to working for the country’s stability and prosperity.”
Hikmatullah Malyar wrote: “The nation has elected its leader. How can we oppose the nation’s decision?”
Opposition
Noor Safi, who opposed the IEC decision, wrote: “The fact is there was widespread fraud and the IEC is controlled by the Presidential Palace.”
Rahmanullah Torab feared: “I think we will witness callous bombardment for another five years.”
Marwand Noori said: “When they leave Afghanistan, the Americans should also take Ghani with themselves.”
Farzana Attaee alleged: “Ghani won the election through bribes and fraud, throwing dirt in our eyes.”
Soon after the announcement of the final results, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah vowed to establish a parallel and inclusive government.
