KABUL (Pajhwok): Above 14,700 electoral complaints have been registered in 31 provinces, in which 8,476 objections are serious and could directly affect the presidential election outcome, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) said on Saturday.
IECC Commissioner Qasim Elyasi told reporters here that 14,760 complaints against last year’s presidential polls have been registered in 31 provinces but they did not have information regarding electoral complaints in Helmand, Daikundi and Ghor provinces due to some technical problems.
He said out of the total registered complaints, 8,476 were serious which could have a direct impact over the votes.
Elyasi said in 31 provinces, the Stability and Partnership team filed 5,372 complaints, the State Builder team filed 3,232 complaints, the Peace and Islamic Justice team lodged 3,624 complaints and the Security and Justice team one complaint.
Of the total complaints, 4,248 are about election violations, 3,011 about election crimes, 1,371 are linked to election rigging and the remaining are linked to other issues.
In line with the election timetable, the provincial complaints offices should complete complaints evaluation in 11 days, but recently the IECC demanded more time.
