KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) invalidated the votes of 1,190 polling stations out of 2,423 polling stations which were referred for a special recount and audit, a statement said on Saturday.
Members of the IEC invalidated the votes of 1,190 polling stations, after the review of audit check lists, the statement said.
The election body reaffirmed its commitment that only votes with biometric data would consider as valid. The source of vote validation and invalidation is based on law, concerned rules and regulations of the IEC.
IEC has assured all stakeholders of its neutrality and added there was no place for personal relationship and references when it comes to decision making. The only standard is IEC rules and regulations.
Earlier, on November 9, the IEC announced the audit and recount process of total 8,255 polling stations, but in some provinces the process was faced with strong opposition from some candidates which forced that IEC to halt the audit and recount process and resumed it after it addressed the reservations of some candidates.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, deputy spokesperson of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), told Pajhwok Afghan News that votes recount and audit process was currently underway in Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces.
Referring to seven provinces where the recount and audit process could not launched due to protests by some candidates, Ibrahaimi said talks were underway with protesting candidates.
He said the result forms of 17 provinces reached to the central IEC office in Kabul.
