KABUL (Pajhwok): Security and Justice Presidential Team, led by Rahmatullah Nabil, has accused the government of not being sincere to hold free and fair election and claims members of the election bodies were changed to pave the way for fraud.
In a statement, Babil’s electoral team claimed President Ashraf Ghani, who is seeking reelection, was trying to hamper the opportunity for free and fair polls by making decisions against the law and democracy.
It claimed recent appointments starting from lowest government positions to the secretary, minister and police chief levels were aimed at engineering the upcoming presidential vote and to benefit President Ashraf Ghani.
Earlier, Deputy Presidential Spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazavi defended President Ashraf Ghani’s recent appointments and said they were in line with the law and asked critics to provide evidence in support of their allegations.
The Security and Justice team criticized the government for ignoring the Provincial Council and District Council elections and said the upper house had lost its legitimacy with absence of elected members from district councils.
It claimed the behavior of the election bodies showed they were not sincere regarding free and fair election and had no such intensions.
Mohammad Qasim Elyasi, secretary and spokesman for the Independent Electoral Compliants Commission (IEC), said the IECC was bound to address complaints registered with them, adding so far there was no complaint regarding early campaigning.
Offices of the election candidates have been officially asked to avoid early campaigning.
