KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Some Wolesi Jirga hopeful on Saturday shut the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional office in northern Kunduz province asking for their demands to be fulfilled.
Dozens of protestors of Wolesi Jirga candidates have gathered in front of the IEC office and shut the main gate by erecting a tent.
Zabihullah Mujadidi, on behalf the protesting candidates, told Pajhwok Afghan the authorities should implement their demands if they want the election office to be reopened.
He said, “We have three demands, only the biometric votes to be counted, all the votes have to recount and individuals involved in rigging should be referred to the judiciary.”
He further added if their demands remained unfulfilled they would close the Kabul-North highway against traffic.
Abdul Ghafor Hotak, another Wolesi Jirga candidate, accused the IEC office over impartiality and giving the advantage to certain candidates.
He said most of the candidates received no votes at the end of Election Day but now it seemed that fraudulent votes had been cast for them.
A number of others candidates expressed similar views.
Rasol Omar, the IEC head for Kunduz province, told Pajhwok the implementation of protesting Wolesi Jirga candidates was above their authority.
He urged them to reopen the IEC office in the province as soon as possible so that the official could continue their work as per routine.
