FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The inspection and recount of votes of 60 polling stations in northeastern Badakhshan province have been kicked off in coordination with the Independent Election Commission (IEC), officials said on Sunday.
Hameedullah Sadaat, head of the regional Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC), told Pajhwok Afghan News they received complaints from 60 polling stations situated in Urgo, Yawan, Kesham and Yafal districts and Faizabad, the provincial capital.
“We dispatched the list to the local Independent Election Commission (IEC) office in Badakhshan and on the bases of the list the inspection and recount of the ballot boxes of the listed polling station kicked off,” he added.
He said in two ballot boxes which opened in front of the observers and media persons it was revealed that the result form were not signed by the polling station in charge and they were unsealed.
The allegations regarding rigging had been proved in these polling stations which proved which forced the commission to conduct inspection and recount of ballot boxes in some polling stations in Badakhshan, he said.
Sadaat said: “Any fraud or rigging unearthed during the inspection the votes of that ballot box would be declared invalidated in line with the law.”
Syed Rohullah Musavi, head of the Independent election commission (IEC) for Badakhshan said, they welcomed every step which ensured transparency in the conduct of elections.
“The IECC sent us the list of 60 polling stations where alleged rigging took place and we are conducting inspection and recount of the ballot boxes of these polling stations today,” he said.
Salahuddin Ayubi, election observer of Wolesi Jirga candidate Samiullah Zhoori said during his observation he found the number of votes of some candidates written more than what was the actual figures.
