MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Four people tasked to observe the ballot process of a candidate have been killed after they were kidnapped in the Nahr-i-Shahi district of northern Balkh province, officials said on Sunday.
Afzal Hadid, a member of provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the four young men served as observers for Israr Tashqurghani, a Wolesi Jirga runner.
He said the observers had been gone to Afghania Township to observe the voting process but lost their way in return.
He added the four individuals had been killed after being kidnapped in Taliban-controlled area and their car also taken away on Saturday night.
Police chief Mohammad Akram Samee confirmed the death of the four men and said their identities were not yet known. Pajhwok tried to contact slain observers’ candidate for comment but he was not reached for comment.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the Taliban’s involvement in the incident.
