AIBAK (Pajhwok): Taliban militants after capturing five villages disallowed people to cast their votes at four polling centers in Dara-i-Suf Paeen district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Sunday.
Voting in the Wolesi Jirga elections kicked off nationwide on Saturday but violence and technical glitches caused delays and interruptions.
Mullah Hafezullah, a Wolesi Jirga candidate from Samangan province, told Pajhwok Afghan News four polling centers in Chojman, Urlamash, Qadam Ali, Bek Mohammad Qadoq and Hotaki areas remained closed on Saturday.
He said Afghan Local Police (ALP) and national police left the villages when Taliban militants arrived on motorbikes, taking control of the all voting centers there.
He said in total 8000 individuals had been registered as voters in these areas, but they were deprived of voting.
Meanwhile, Munir Rahimi, provincial police spokesman, confirmed the issue, but provided no details.
