FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Construction work on a school in a far-flung area of western Ghor province has been completed, benefitting 600 students, an official said on Thursday.
The school, constructed on two acres of land, has eight classrooms, four administrative rooms, a boundary wall and play grounds. The project cost 12 million afghanis provided the Japanese government and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Equipped with chairs, desks and other tools, the school has been built in the Madrassa locality on the outskirts of Ferozkoh, the provincial capital.
Education Director Sibghatullah Akbari said 250,000 students, including girls, were being taught in 843 schools across Ghor, where 600 schools did not have proper buildings.
Governor Sima Joyenda said education was instrumental in addressing the miseries of the Afghan nation. She expressed concern that girls in some areas were deprived of education.
A former Wolesi Jirga members, the governor called quality education a priority and asked people to send their girls to schools. Education officials say as many as 20 schools remain closed in the province due to insecurity.
