BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): This year almond prices have been incased in central Dikundi province, earning 1.05 billion afghanis to the farmers through selling and exporting to India, , an official said on Saturday.
Last year, the revenue from the total 7700 tonnes of almond was nearly 770 million afs while this year at least 1.05 billion afs revenue received from 7000 tonnes due to increase of almond price from 100 afs to 150 afs per kg this year, the director of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mihdi Mowahidi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The price of almond hiked due to low production and export to Indian market for the first time, he said adding there are Kafmal, Kaghazi, Starbai and Sangak varieties of the almond in the province where Kafmal variety had the best quality.
His 100-tree orchard yielded nearly 4.9 tonnes of almond and the income from the stone fruit can meet the financial need of his family for one year, a resident of Shahristan district of the province, Mohammad Hassan said.
He was happy over the proper market for the produce but said this year they faced irrigation water scarcity, so the government should pay attention to the issue.
Most of the people of the province depend on agriculture products especially almond, if the produce lowers yearly, the farmer would suffer losses, a member of provincial council, Hadi Rahimizada, said.
