FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Five days of clashes between security forces and insurgents have displaced hundreds of families in Khak-i-Safed district of western Farah province, officials said on Monday.
The gun battles that continued for five consecutive days forced hundreds of families in Khoshkabi, Korghan, Nawi Deh and some other areas to flee their homes and move to Push-i-Rod and Bala Baluck districts of the province, a member of the provincial council, Dadullah Qani, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He had no information about casualties in the clashes.
“My parents and two elder brothers have shifted to Pusht-i-Rod district,” a resident of Khoshkabi village, Mohammad Ibrahim, said.
He said the Taliban were in control of Khoshkabi, Korghan, Nawi Deh villages from where hundreds of families had fled, he said.
The district headquarters has been surrounded by Taliban and could fall to them if no immediate action was taken, a resident of Khost village, Ihsamuddin Pashtun, said.
However, the governor’s spokesman, Jawad Afghan, said Afghan commandos reached the district on Saturday to drive militants from the areas.
