Ander clash leaves 9 dead, 6 wounded

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Five members of an uprising group and four Taliban militants were killed during a clash in the Andar district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.
The governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Shafiq Nang, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban militants stormed the uprising group’s posts in Gandyr village last night.
Five members of the rebellion including their commander were killed and another three were wounded in the firefight that followed the attack.
Four Taliban attackers were also killed and three others wounded after the militiamen returned fire. The bodies of two insurgents were still lying on the clash site.
However, the Provincial Council’s deputy head, Abdul Jami Jami, said seven members of the uprising group had been killed and an eighth wounded in the raid.
A resident of Gandyr area, Abdullah Gul, said the Taliban militants completely destroyed a security post of the anti-Taliban militia.
He said Afghan National Army (ANA) and police arrived in the morning and cordoned off the area.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed eight uprising members were killed in the attack.
Provincial police chief Col. Asadullah Insafi said nothing about the attack in Andar, but said militants for the first time in 14 years had attacked a security post in Nahur district of Ghazni. He said only one policeman was wounded in the incident.
Nahur district chief Mohammad Juma Ali confirmed the incident and said the Taliban halted all telephone services before attacking the security post, forcing security forces to retreat.
He said one policeman was wounded in the incident and the rebels also took away a tank and two motorcycles with them from the post.
Taliban spokesman Zabihulalh Mujahid confirmed the incident and said police suffered casualties.
He confirmed the death of one rebel and seizing a tank, three bikes and a Kalashnikov from the security post.
