KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Citing officials’ inefficiency after the falloff Dashti-i-Archi districts and some other parts of the northern Kunduz province to Taliban, Provincial Council (PC) members stressed that strategy should be worked out to regain control of the areas, which were under militants’ sway.
It merits mention that Dashti Archi district had fallen to Taliban last month but the government could not take back control of the district.
Gortapa, a locality close to Kunduz City, the provincial capital, Aqtash area in Khan Abad district and some of areas of Qala-i-Zal locality were being overrun by militants.
Mohammad Yousuf Ayubi, head of Kunduz PC, said that officials concerned did not demonstrate efficiency to keep the law and order under control.
“I have tried many times to tell officials that we should not give up any part of the area, but no one bothered to hear my complaints,” he recalled.
He acknowledged that the central government sent them reinforcements to launch a decisive anti-militants operation in the Taliban’s infested areas but the offensive could not be initiated.
Ayubi said that local forces could not be able to take control back of areas if the central government did not provide strong backing.
A number of residents of Dasht-i- Archi district told Pajhwok Afghan News that Taliban were forcing them to join Taliban ranks.
A resident of the locality who wished to go unnamed said that insurgents have assigned their agent in every masque to collect money around 15,000 or 50,000 Afghani.
Another source said that more than one hundred families have been living in the area and each family was forced to give 150 Afghani to Taliban.
Zar Gul Alami, Kunduz PC deputy head, said that thousands of families have shifted from villages to safer areas, but the central and provincial government did not support them.
