JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The acting governor of eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday said had tendered resignation from his office due to certain hurdles.
Maulvi Attaullah Ludin, who had been appointed by former president Hamid Karzai in November 2013, announced his resignation during a meeting at his office.
Government officials, religious scholars and tribal elders attended the meeting in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
Ludin linked his decision to the problems he encountered in introducing reforms, combating corruption, law enforcement and preventing land grb.
“I’m standing down because willful operations (in the province) ordered from Kabul and working in acting capacity don’t allow me to continue in this position,” he added.
He went on to explain: “At times, I remain unaware of operations in the province, creating problems for me. I had closed a weighbridge on Torkham road for reasons of corruption, but that has now reopened.”
Being an acting governor, Ludin argued, he could not sack some high-ranking civil servants who did not possess the required qualifications and capacity.
Asked by participants to withdraw his resignation, Ludin replied: “While sticking to my decision, I say goodbye to you and will share my decision with the president...”
Nangarhar Peace Committee head Malik Nazir praised the outgoing governor’s services, including improved administrative discipline and efforts for unity among the people.
A former member of the Wolesi Jirga from Nangarhar, Ludin has also served as deputy head of the High Peace Council. He is a leader of the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan party.
