Clash over land dispute claims 7 lives in Pakita

GARZEZ (Pajhwok): Seven people have been killed as a result of a clash between two tribes over a land dispute in the Zazi Aryub district of southeastern Paktia province, a senior official said on Sunday.
Deputy Governor Abdul Wali Sahi told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash between Hamzakhel and Mulla Babakhel tribesmen started on Saturday.
Heading a delegation to the area, Sahi said seven people had been killed and several others wounded during the firefight.
On Saturday, he said, 18 people from both the sides were injured and it was unknown as yet if the dead were from the injured.
He said he had reached the area along with the delegation and was trying to secure a ceasefire between the tribes.
A day earlier, Paktia deputy police chief Mohammad Zaman told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash occurred in Rokyan village in the Zazi Aryub district near the border with Azra district in central Logar province.
He said the two tribes had a dispute over a graveyard and a mountain and several people were injured in yesterday’s clash.
But a heath official in the district, declining to be named, told Pajhwok that seven people had been killed and more than 10 injured in the incident.
Hamidullah, a resident, also confirmed the clash and the casualties.
Similar clashes on ownership of mountains, forests and land between tribes had claimed several lives in the past.
