Panjsheris pin high hopes on new PC

PARAKH (Pajhwok): A number of residents of central Panjsher province hope the new provincial council, including young and qualified members, will better serve the masses.

The provincial council elections were held on April 5, but the results were announced after seven months delay. Five of the 10 members on the council are new faces aged between 32 and 37 years.

Hasib Mowahid, a resident of Koraba district, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was happy that young and enterprising public representatives had been able to find their way to the council.

The outgoing council did not serve the public properly and people expected the new members to focus on finding solutions to the current problems facing the province, he said.

Farhad, who belongs to Hesa-i-Daum district, was also hopeful of the young public representatives justifying their election by according priority to the resolution of public problems.

He asked the council members to convey a message to government officials to build schools, roads and hospital in addition to addressing other issues.

Najibullah Yaqubi, a new PC member, said coordination among the previous provincial council members had been poor. But the new members would try their best to meet public demands on a priority basis, he promised.

But Wahidullah Dazhkohi, who has been reelected, said the outgoing members had tried their best to find solution to problems.

They had paved the ground for promoting higher education and building the civil hospital, he explained.
