Next president asked to focus on merit, security

PARAKH (Pajhwok): Residents of central Panjsher province on Monday urged the new president to help eliminate administrative graft, ensure security and remove ethnic and linguistic rifts among the people.
The first round of the presidential election was held on April 5 and the runoff on June 14, but the process is yet to be finalised, causing economic problems and insecurity in the country.
People urged the incoming head of state to tackle the problems being faced by them and put the country on path to development, prosperity and stability.
Mohammad Wazir, 21, from the Bazarak area of provincial capital, said: “The next president should tackle three major problems: Insecurity, corruption and ethnic rifts.”
Noor Alam, a resident of Qabzal village of Rokha district, called for sustained focus on bolstering security throughout the country.
Abdul Hafiz, a dweller of Dara district, stressed the need for stabilising the economy and speeding up rehabilitation efforts. Strict merit be upheld in appointments of police chiefs and governors, he concluded.
