ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Pakistan has intensified rocket attacks on eastern Kunar province in a bid to scuttle the second round of presidential elections, the governor alleged on Tuesday.
Shujaul Mulk Jalala levelled the allegation amid complaints from security officials that Pakistan had fired hundred of rockets into Kunar, inflicting casualties and material losses on locals.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the fresh bout of missile strikes from Pakistan was aimed at sabotaging the runoff ballot. He said Afghan forces, with public support, would beef up security for the election.
Jalala stressed the government in Kabul should resolve the issue through diplomatic channels and stop attacks from across the Durand Line. The attacks had forced hundreds of families to migrate to safer places, he informed.
Abdul Habib Syedkhel, the provincial police chief, said Pakistan had fired a total of 203 rockets into the province since Monday. One person was killed and 15 others wounded in Pakistani attack the other day, he added.
