KABUL (Pajhwok): Election oversight institutes say more than 11,000 election observers have been tasked with overseeing the polling process despite serious concerns facing the democratic process.

 

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) office in southern Ghazni province says 173 polling centres have been closed due to insecurity.
Abdul Naseer Momand, IEC director for Ghazni, told Pajhwok Afghan News there were 406 polling centres in the province. Only 233 of them would be operating on election day and the rest would remain shut.
He added elections would not be conducted in Rashidan, Ajristan, Nawa, Giro and Jaghato districts because of insecurity.

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations has urged all stakeholders to play their part in creating conditions for citizens to vote in safety and for the credibility of the electoral process to be safeguarded.
“Free from fear, intimidation and threats of violence, voters must be given every opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot and elect political representatives in a peaceful manner,” the UN’s top diplomat in the country said.

KABUL (Pajhwok):  President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Dr. Abdullah have lost a number of important supporters, including former campaign heads, due to their failed promises in the 2014 electioneering. Their former allies have now joined the opposition.

KABUL (Pajhwok): Political experts have called for stopping the release of photo shopped images on social media (Facebook and Twitter) defaming presidential candidates.

But the Independent Election Complains Commission (IECC) and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information and Technology (MoTIT) say controlling all social media pages is difficult.

The existence of fake pages has worsened the problem. In case of a formal complaint, the commission and the ministry say, they will take necessary legal steps.

KABUL (Pajhwok): To hold transparent, fair and free elections, the country’s electoral bodies on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding on joint coordination for this month’s presidential election.
Officials of the electoral commissions told a joint press conference in Kabul that the memorandum was aimed at speeding up implementation of cooperation and coordination for this month’s election.

FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Many women in western Ghor province say no problem can stop them from participating in this month’s presidential election and they will prevent the ballot from being rigged by a massive turnout.
According to election officials in Ghor, nearly 89,000 women have received voter cards for September 28 presidential election in the province.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional office in western Herat province on Sunday said 30 polling stations would be closed on the Election Day and another 69 faced high security risk in unstable districts of the province.

 

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A number of election observers in western Herat province on Wednesday voiced their frustration over lack of awareness-creating programs as part of the electoral process.

 

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Religious scholars in southeastern Paktia province on Wednesday said taking part in this month’s presidential election was people’s right and responsibility.
They expressed these views at an election related gathering organized by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) regional office in Gardez City, the provincial capital, today.
