SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum on Wednesday lent his support to Abdullah Abdullah in rejecting the final presidential election results, asking his support to celebrate victory of the Stability and Partnership team in the poll.
Addressing a large gathering of his supporters in Mellat Palace here, Dostum said: “We don’t accept the results announced by the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and consider it a result of the haste of the commission.”
He asked his supporters to take to the streets and announce the victory of the Stability and Partnership team.
“I had already stated my position on the announcement of the results, and possibly the State Builder team might have promised decent government positions to the commissioners in their government in return for declaring them as winner,” said Dostum.
“Everyone who ignores us we will stand against them,” he said, adding that the situation had changed from the past when one soldier would command an entire village, but now a military corps could not move one village from its place.
About the establishment of their own government, Dostum said he would consult with elders and tribal people in this regard.
He said the people of Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan and Faryab could start consultations regarding the selection of their governors.
