KABUL (Pajhwok): Meshrano Jirga members on Sunday called adherence to Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’s high morals as the only way to get resoled the country’s problems and insisted on announcement of the presidential election results as soon as possible.
The upper house members congratulated the entire nation and the Muslim world on marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and stressed adherence to high morals of the Prophet.
Senator Sediq Balkhi said: “All Afghans should adhere to the guidance of the Prophet and should follow his way.”
He asked media outlets, specially televisions, to air programs on the personality and life of the Prophet.
Sediqi also asked the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to announce the result of the Sept 28 presidential election in its due date.
Another lawmaker Lotfullah Baba also asked the IEC to announce the election result as soon as possible because a powerful government could push forward peace talks with the Taliban.
Peace talks between the US and the Taliban have been suspended, but US chief negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad recently resumed his journey to some countries to discuss peace efforts.
Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar also congratulated the nation and on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
He asked the Afghans to serve their country with unity and with a strong spirit of patriotism.
The Senate chairman also asked the IEC to announce the result of the election on its due date.
“A further delay in the election results will harm the unity among Afghans and create space for unfortunate incidents.” He stressed all candidates should accept the result which the election body was going to announce.
It is worth mentioning that presidential election candidate Abdullah Abdullah has demanded a halt to the recount process as he sees the illegitimate.
