KABUL (Pajhwok): A member of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Tuesday said the process of transferring data from biometric devices to the central system was going slow, so it would not be possible to announce primary election results on October 19, if the situation continued.
Based on the election schedule, the primary results of September 28 presidential election should be announced on October 19.
However, Maulana Mohammad Abdullah, an IEC commissioner, on Tuesday in a Facebook post said that the primary data of only 22,400 biometric devices and complete data of 14,000 devices from 26,568 polling sites had so far been transferred to the central system.
“If the biometric data transfer process continues at this pace, it would nbot be possible to declare primary election results on October 19,” he said.
The IEC had earlier said it was trying to announce election results based on the schedule.
A number of presidential candidates have also demanded early announcement of the election results.
