KABUL (Pajhwok): Independent Election Commission (IEC) officials on Sunday said the transfer of electoral materials to Kabul and provinces had been completed and preparations for ensuring security during the election were in place.
On the other hand, election officials said 60,000 election observers had received credentials for the September 28 presidential poll.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, IEC spokesman, told a joint press conference with the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior and Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) officials here that the transfer of electoral materials to the capital and provinces had been and their transfer to districts was underway.
The electoral materials were transferred through land and air without any problem, he said.
“This commission is fully prepared for holding the election transparently and justly on September 28, we are trying to stop fake and imaginary votes on the Election Day,” he said.
Ibarhimi said that distribution of credentials to election observers was underway and 60,000 of the observers had so far received their permits.
He asked media outlets, political parties, election oversight institutes and other organs to take their credentials for more transparency in the election.
The commission needs 200,000 workers for holding the presidential election and more than 100,000 of them so far received training for their jobs, he said.
Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said, “We are in an important national and historic phase and all our security forces are ready for ensuring security of the election.”
He said the security plan had been divided into pre-election, during the Election Day and after election phases and currently 72,000 Afghan security personnel were tasked with detection and intelligence.
He said 30,000 other security personnel would be on standby in the next few days.
Rohullah Ahmadzai, a spokesman of the Ministry of Defense (MoD), said, “All our security forces in the capital and provinces are active and ready for ensuring security of the election. A transparent election is our goal.”
He assured presidential candidates that Afghan forces were protecting the election process with a high morale.
