KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Tuesday said photo, fingerprints, identity card photo were prerequisite for transparency in election and prevention of fraud.
Hawa Alam Nuristani, IEC chief, told a press conference here that the commission was committed to holding the presidential election on September 28.
She said facial photo, identity card photo and two fingerprints of all voters whether male or female would be registered for transparency in election.
In the last election, photo for women voters was optional but it was mandatory in the upcoming presidential election, she said.
“It would be easy for voters to find their names in voter lists on the election day based on their photos”, she said.
“The vote of a person whose fingerprints are not registered or his or her identity card is not stamped by the IEC, would be invalidated,” Nuristani said.
She said all biometric devices and equipment had reached the commission and they would be also transferred to provinces in a month.
According to the IEC, a total of 96,654,745 people including 3,334,230 of them women have registered as voters for the presidential election.
As many as 5,374 polling stations and 29,586 polling sites would stay open for voters on the election day.
