LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Presidential ballot will not take place in six districts of southern Helmand province due to insecurity, an official said on Wednesday.
Shabbir Ahmad Hamid, provincial Independent Election Commission head, in an exclusive interview told Pajhwok Afghan News that election would not take place in Nawzad, Washir, Sangeen, Desho, Musa Qala and Khanshin districts.
“Sticker attachment process was also remained undone due to insecurity.” He said.
But he said that dozens of people attached voter stickers on their ID cards in other districts of the province.
Attaullah Afghan, a member of provincial council, said that people of the insecure districts could not participate in election. He said only military personnel could cast their votes and common people were unable following fear from Taliban.
Police chief Ihsamuddin Helmandi said they had launched clearing operation ahead of election and promised to recapture all the areas under Taliban control before election.
