عبدالله: برای بهبود وضع امنیتى در هلمند اقدامات جدی روی دست گرفته شده است

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday said the Taliban with their irrational stances and harshness emphasized on war despite the fact the ground for peace has been paved.
Abdullah, while speaking at a ceremony marking Mothers Day here, called the Taliban the main factor behind the continued war in Afghanistan, saying the insurgent group had no strong intention to ensure peace in the country.
“The Taliban think they would be able to take control of this country when foreign forces leave Afghanistan, their actions show they have no other goal than that,” he said.
Abdullah called an end to the war and establishment of peace in the country a priority of the government and the Afghan people, saying politicians and the people should have a strong voice for reaching peace.
He called the launch of voter registration process as the first step towards the success of presidential election and said, “Keeping the peace process moving does not mean we should give up the election, this is the process the Afghan people want and they have got preparations for that.”
“It either does not mean that focusing on election would sideline the peace process,” he said, adding that the main obstacle to peace were the Taliban.
He said the government could not postpone the election by wishing and waiting for the removal of hurdles.
At the end of his speech, Abdullah congratulated all Afghan women on the Mother’s Day and hoped Afghanistan would get peace so everyone would live without any fears.
