KABUL (Pajhwok): New National Front Afghanistan chief Anwarul Haq Ahadi has joined forces with presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s electoral team, sources said on Thursday.
Abdullah’s Stability and Unanimity electoral team is formed of Jamiat-i-Islami, Junbish-i-Islami and Wahdat-i-Islami parties.
The incumbent Chief Executive Officer has picked Enayatullah Farhmand as his first deputy presidential running mate and Asadullah Saadati as his second vice-president candidate in the presidential election.
Hekmat Safi, a media official of the Stability and Unanimity team, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Anwarul Haq Ahadi, head of New National Front Afghanistan, joined their team following several meetings between the two sides.
“If Stability and Unanimity wins the election, Ahadi would be appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the team”, he said without providing further details.
Enayatullah Babar Farhmand also wrote on his Facebook page that Ahadi joined the Stability and Unanimity team on Wednesday evening.
A source close to Anwarul Haq Ahadi, wishing anonymity, confirmed Ahadi’s joining of Abdullah’s electoral team, but did not provide more information.
Ahadi has served as head of the Da Afghanistan Bank, finance minister and minister of commerce and industries.
The next presidential election is scheduled for September 28.
